Mom, I Want Learn Your Recipe Journal (Espanol)

My grandmother always said, “Food is love.” I bought this journal because I couldn’t bear the thought of losing her recipes—or her stories. As she writes them down in her own handwriting, I realize… I’m preserving more than just ingredients. I’m preserving her. One day, this will be the closest thing to cooking with her again. I cry happy tears every time I open it.

My mom’s lasagna was our family’s love language. When she got sick, I gave her this journal. Now, each recipe is filled with memories—where it came from, who she made it for, little stories in the margins. Her handwriting. Her flavor of love. It’s so much more than a cookbook. It’s how I’ll remember her, forever.

I never had the right words to tell my mom how much her cooking meant to me. So I gave her this. Every Sunday, we sit together while she fills out another recipe. We talk, we laugh, we cry. It’s our ritual now. “Write it down” really means “I don’t want to lose you.” And this book… it’s the proof that love lives on through food.

Gifted this to my mom last Christmas. Found her crying happy tears while writing in it last week. She said some questions make her remember things she hasn't thought about in 50 years! Now my kids will know their grandma's whole story, in her own words. Just beautiful.

After Dad passed, I realized how many of Mom’s meals were tied to memories. Birthdays, holidays, tough days—she fed us through all of it. This journal gave me a way to say “I see you” and “I love you” without needing the words. We’re passing down more than meals. We’re passing down our family’s story, one dish at a time.
